Pontius (1973) raised ethical questions concerning research on reflexive stimulation in newborn infants. A reliance on poor data, theoretical misinterpretations, and inappropriate generalizations seriously weaken the scientific merit of her case. Available research reveals no detrimental consequence of reflexive stimulation during infancy.
