Following earlier failures to treat a case of dental phobia with drug therapy, 12 30-min. sessions of in vivo desensitization over a period of 6 wk. culminated in the patient's undergoing local anesthesia by hypodermic injection (the most-feared aspect of the dental situation) and having a tooth cavity filled.
