Abstract
The effects on retention of overt verbal coding during exposure to a model, and overt practice immediately following exposure to a model were investigated. Overt verbal coding during observation of a film did not facilitate the retention of observational learning. However, as predicted, Ss given one overt practice session immediately following exposure to the model imitated significantly more of the model's behavior on the delayed posttest than Ss given no overt practice before the delayed posttest.
