The Kaufman formula for abbreviating the WPPSI was applied to two groups of 20 referrals, 5- to 6-yr.-old. 20 were potentially gifted, 20 had behavior/learning problems. While the Kaufman formula provided mean scores very close to the actual Full Scale scores, the standard error of estimate in each instance was too large to predict individual Full Scale scores. Simple proration of the four subtests gave equivalent outcome.
