The validity of Gesell language norms for 111 Israeli children, aged 2 to 6 yr., was checked by using their Gesell language levels to predict their home backgrounds. Speech retardation accurately predicted which groups came from poorer homes at all age levels. Gesell speech norms thus appear to be valid for Hebrew.
