Visual synthesis and analysis of geometric figures were correlated .69, using kindergarten and first-grade Ss. Both skills were correlated with more complex visual construction and Block Design, averaging .62. All 4 tasks were correlated with age (averaging .50) and vocabulary (averaging .33) but only the complex tasks were correlated with SES (averaging .34). Types of errors were analyzed. Basic perceptual abilities evidently operate in both synthesis and analysis and these visual skills are strongly related to higher level cognitive functioning.
