Abstract
The study attempted to delineate the temporal range within which pre-school children perceived apparent movement. The psychophysical thresholds and temporal range of apparent movement were specified by the use of a response-decrement model with length of first fixation as the dependent variable. The variation in temporal range of apparent movement with age was investigated and the underlying form of the relationship approached a fourth degree polynomial equation. Both the observed and best fit data indicated a decrease in the temporal range of apparent movement as age increased. Verbal reports which also served as a criterion failed to generate any statistically significant trends and showed a strong negative correlation with first fixation.
