An approach to measuring a specific vocational aptitude in the retarded, using an intraindividual discrepancy measure, was developed and evaluated. Reliability was determined with 107 children in Grades 1, 2 and 3, and with 84 college students. Validity was measured against workshop production criteria with 18 retarded workers. The approach was demonstrated to be feasible for measuring spatial aptitudes, and is proposed as being of potential value for use in measuring other specific aptitudes.
