Abstract
16 permanently paralyzed patients and 17 recovered patients were asked “to name 20 parts of the body.” All Ss were tested late in the first year following the onset of poliomyelitis. The paralyzed patients showed statistically fewer interior responses while the recovered patients showed significantly fewer exterior responses than control groups matched on 7 variables. All groups made many more exterior responses (81%) than interior responses. This has been reported by others and should be kept in mind when investigating bodily attention patterns.
