Abstract
Increased interest in aquatic species as possible limits to laws of behavior established with mammals has led to a need for apparatus suitable for experimentation with these species. Locomotor situations seem to be most desirable but pose a special problem in that transfer from home aquarium to experimental apparatus is usually aversive. The apparatus described has connecting chutes between aquarium and apparatus which allows Ss to be transferred without trauma. Acquisition and extinction of a food-reinforced locomotor response were demonstrated.
