Computer simulation of hypothetical observers demonstrates that threshold estimations obtained by the method of limits are influenced by assumptions about the underlying threshold distribution, the direction of approach to the threshold, and the trial termination rule. Furthermore, it appears that a reliable estimate of the threshold can be obtained with 100 trials.
