Abstract
45 middle-age men ranked 12 somatotype photographs from the physique most suited to the physique least suited to each of 7 personality/behavior concepts. The results indicated significant agreement in ranking the physiques. Inspection of mean ranks indicated the order of somatotypes, from most to least like the positively oriented concepts, was (a) mesomorphy, (b) combined dominance, (c) ectomorphy, and (d) endomorphy. Comparison of these results with findings of a similar study of college students discloses some similarities as well as differences in the stereotyped social image of physique among these 2 populations.
