Abstract
A set of 7 items dealing with attitude-relevant issues were added to the Pettigrew (1958) Category Width Scale. The combined scale, together with an object-sorting test and a quantity-width-estimation test, was administered to Ss. The hypothesized generality of category width tendencies across attitude-relevant and attitude-irrelevant domains, and the hypothesized differences in category width consistencies across domains were empirically verified. The data also indicate intra-subject generality of response strategies to category-width items in terms of inconsistency in category width. In addition, data were obtained on the generality of categorization tendencies using different methods of measurement.
