Short description of an effective therapeutic strategy for the heroin addict is given; emphasis is on two procedures aimed at shortening establishment of a therapeutic relationship and increasing the ego strength (will power, frustration tolerance) of the patient at the onset of therapy. The first goal was achieved by special application of unconscious material obtained by a newly developed technique, the second by the use of a modified form of hypnosis.
