Under unrestricted binocular conditions, up to 120 ft., size judgments were found to conform to the principle of size constancy (Holway & Boring, 1941). Under similar conditions, but with the stimulus displayed against the zenith sky, size judgments departed from size constancy as distance was increased and moved toward visual angle.
