Abstract
This pilot investigation of children's perception of figure inversion was an attempt to ascertain the degree of uniformity in perception of figure inversion among preprimary and primary grade children. Ss of each age group were shown pieces of identical figures representing a part of a triangle but one figure was turned 180° from the other. Ss were asked to indicate whether each figure was upside down. A chi square test indicated that preprimary children and primary children perceived figure inversion differently. Primary children's perception of figure inversion was in greater agreement with the hypothetical model propounding a relation between the degree of conformity in perception of figure inversion and the presented figure's nearness to the fully closed triangle.
