Abstract
This study was designed to investigate the effect of serial position of a low meaningfulness (m) isolate on the resultant isolation in a high m list. Four Es used 112 Ss assigned to a control (C) and three experimental (P) conditions in a design which permitted four replications; one for each E. All groups learned similar 13-item lists of high m items, except that the three P lists contained a low m isolate at either serial position 4, 7, or 10. The results yielded isolation at position 4 only, with no other effects significant.
