While universal meanings for Rorschach content may exist, it is suggested that attempts be made to determine the idiosyncratic significance of a particular response to the person who gave it. One method is to elicit chains of associations to the responses and then to examine the chains for matrices and interconnections. An example is given in which this method revealed unsuspected clinical material.
