Abstract
The continuous production and accumulation of replicated artifacts represent a detriment to the archaeological study of non-excavated artifact collections. Over time, some of these replicas undoubtedly end up polluting regional collections of value to archaeological study, and institutional collections as well. Because of this overall scenario, there is an increase in need for effective artifact authentication. Principles and practices applicable to proper and efficient authentication analyses are identified.
