Abstract
To commemorate the beginning of the fiftieth volume of Sociological Perspectives, the author describes the development of the journal, the early decisions to make it a national rather than a strictly regional journal, the role of the Pacific Sociological Association as a sponsor of the journal, and the social and economic forces that played a part in the journal development. The author concludes with a discussion of the current state of journal publication and commentary on the future of the journal.
