Abstract
Materials potentially useful as prism coupling components for the study of the properties of thin films have been characterized by their Raman spectra. Diamond emerges as the material of choice from a group including diamond, cubic zirconia, rare earth garnets, strontium titanate, rutile, sapphire, spinel, silicon carbide, beryls, yttralox and topaz. Several of these materials are used as diamond imitations and are readily identified from their Raman spectra. Doublets and their components are also readily identifiable.
