Reflections are used with infrared spectroscopy in both internal reflection spectroscopy and reflection-absorption spectroscopy. These two techniques are compared and contrasted to transmission infrared spectroscopy. Several typical applications of each arc given along with some elementary theory of the reflection process itself. The applicability of each technique and past and probable future developments are discussed.
