Abstract
An analysis of residual impurities and alloy additions was needed to establish concentration ranges and limits in a superplastic alloy. A spectrochemical method using two different techniques was developed to complete this analysis. The first was a solution-rotating are procedure for analyzing the alloying elements. The second was a powder dc arc procedure for analyzing the residual impurities. In this technique, the metal is converted to an oxide. The average coefficient of variation of the residual impurities and alloy additions was 15.5% and 6.0%, respectively. Synthetic standards were used and the analytical lines, apparatus, and excitation parameters are described in detail.
