Abstract
The purpose of this review is to describe dilemmas associated with antibiotic collateral damage and provide clinical pharmacists with information to improve antibiotic utilization. The clinical use of antibiotics has been associated with acquisition and spread of nosocomial pathogens and multidrug-resistant strains, such as extended-spectrum beta-lactamases, AmpC hyper-producers, carbapenemases, and resistant gram-positive organisms.
