Abstract
Much of the genito-urinary medicine (GUM) medical workforce of the UK is composed of non-consultant career grade doctors (NCCG) whose lot in the specialty has been much neglected. A questionnaire was sent to the 108 known members of 1994 and a resume of their replies is presented. The greatest plight of this group apart from its non-uniformity of status, are 2 concerns over employment conditions and lack of continuing medical education. An interim report was presented to the main national AGUM committee and a programme for tackling some of the major issues has been proposed. As the International Journal of STD and AIDS has now been approved to be an intrinsic part of AGUM membership, it is felt that a report in its pages would be appropriate.
