Abstract
Near infrared (NIR) spectroscopy technology as a powerful tool to combat counterfeit drugs has been accepted as a consensus by the international community. It has been about 10 years since we proposed establishing an NIR rapid drug-screening system in China. Since 2003, such screening systems in China have been gradually constructed, while their vital functions are being effectively fulfilled and improved. In this article, the developmental process for NIR rapid screening system has been systematically reviewed, and the primary technical characteristics and innovation are also discussed, yielding an insight into the prospects of this technology.
