Abstract
An important feature of any intelligent knowledge-based system (IKBS) for the design of forging dies is the ability to compare new components with those previously encountered by the system. In order to accomplish this, it is necessary to identify the parameters that significantly influence the success or otherwise of the forging and the weighting effect of these parameters. An experimental method has been developed to obtain the weighting effects of different process and geometrical parameters in completely closed-die forging. The results have been implemented in the IKBS and are shown to be capable of assessing the suitability of proposed forging die sequences.
