Abstract
This paper presents a thermo-economic optimization technique yielding simple algebraic formulae for estimating the optimum heat-exchanger effectiveness and the number of stages of multi-stage (booster) gas-compression system with waste heat recovery applications. An economic analysis method is used together with thermal analysis to set up a mathematical model for the multi-variable thermo-economic optimization of multi-stage compressors.
