Abstract
This article has been written to address the problems relating to the standardization of information when applying delay-time analysis to a maintenance department. This article outlines the inherent problem of combining subjective judgement and objective data. A fuzzy set modelling methodology is introduced which addresses the elicitation of such information, specifically to establish the delay-time environmental model. This methodology has been applied to a case study in order to demonstrate the process involved. The original case study has been re-examined with the fuzzy set modelling data replacing the original data gathered relating to the environmental model. A direct comparison between the original delay-time environmental model and the fuzzy delay-time environmental model is then carried out. This comparison highlights the advantages of using fuzzy set modelling to elicit information from differing sources while overcoming the uncertainties and inaccuracies previously experienced.
