Abstract
Spectroscopy is commonly used to analyse the wear of internal combustion engines. However, it can only measure the density of elements in abrasive dusts mixed in lubricants and not the exact amount of wear of specific engine components. In this paper, measurement of the oil spectrum is used to obtain the concentrations of elements in a lubricant. An appropriate numerical method is developed to process the acquired data and to obtain the actual wear of each running component. Experiments are conducted to verify the efficiency of this method.
