Abstract
In the tooling of some piercing operations, plates are used that contain hundreds of holes with small diameters and very tight position and dimension tolerances. The best way to ensure high requirements is the machining of the holes in plates together. Because of the greater length-diameter ratio, an intermittent drilling process must be applied. The errors of the holes could then be reduced in the second drilling, followed by reaming and/or burnishing. Interchangeable dies are manufactured using a specially prepared master drilling plate or the existing guide plate.
