Abstract
This paper presents a system for the automatic selection of chucking surfaces in turning rotational parts. The general strategy of the system aims to define all the possible set-ups that allow complete machining of the part. Several criteria have been provided to eliminate those set-ups or set-up combinations incompatible with the process constraints. In particular, the developed system takes into account the geometrical shape of both the part and the chuck as well as the dimensions and the tolerances provided by the design. All the related information is saved in standard databases.
