Abstract
The primary purpose of this article is to outline the functions that the removable lingual arch occupies within the framework of the Universal Appliance. As it has uses for those who utilize techniques other than the Universal Technique, a step-by-step construction method is offered. Arising from the latter, is an explanation as to the uses and construction of the split-lingual mechanism, an expansion device.
A brief description of the history of the lingual sheath, its placement, sizes and styles are also discussed.
All of the above is accompanied by the use of photographs to enhance the understanding of this presentation.
