Abstract
A novel densification method, termed as wedge pressing, for spray deposited tube preforms with large dimensions was investigated. Al–Fe–V–Si heat resistant aluminium alloy tube preforms were prepared and wedge pressed. The experimental results show that the wedge pressing process can obviously eliminate the pores in the as deposited preforms and improve the formability. A steel shell canning can restrain the diameter expansion and uniform the temperature distribution. The microstructure evolution behaviour during densification was examined and the optimum processing parameters and fracture behaviour were investigated.
