Surface relief in dynamically embrittled low alloy steels with varied flow stress

Abstract

The dynamic embrittlement of low alloy steels with two different flow stresses at a low partial pressure of oxygen is presented. The low alloy steel with a higher flow stress experienced a relatively higher degree of dynamic embrittlement compared with the steel with a lower flow stress. Pronounced surface relief originated on the surface of intergranular facets, and is defined in terms of a surface deformation parameter determined from atomic force microscopy.
