Abstract
There are many new plate/Steckel mills being built or existing facilities revamped to support the need for steel infrastructure construction for the various growing world economies. Achieving maximum capability and optimisation of these new or revamped mills requires consideration of several variables starting with the initial design. Questions concerning desired grades, gauges, widths, cost and available slabs to support those products along with many others need to be engaged. Using linepipe steels as the product example, this paper will address important practical considerations that need to be addressed to achieve maximum capability, quality and throughput.
