Abstract
The corrosion behaviour of G105 steel in an inhibited oilfield heavy brine was studied using potentiodynamic polarisation and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy in order to evaluate corrosion inhibition using a quaternary alkynoxymethyl amine. The results showed that the quaternary alkynoxymethyl amine appeared to be a mixed type inhibitor with inhibition efficiency greater than 90% at 60°C. X-ray diffraction studies on the corrosion products revealed the presence of β-FeOOH in brine at 60°C.
