Abstract
It is clear that a combination of varied efforts will be required to effectively reduce greenhouse gas emissions on the scale needed to avoid disastrous climate change impacts. A portfolio of technologies now exists to meet the world's energy needs over the next 50 years and limit atmospheric CO2. Many of these technologies pose significant corrosion challenges and as such, will require some use of advanced materials. Nickel containing alloys (ranging from lean duplex to superaustenitic stainless steel grades to the high nickel alloys) are important enabling materials for climate change solutions such as solar energy, ethanol production, and carbon capture and storage.
