Abstract
In the present investigation, the corrosion behaviour of Al–4·5 wt-%Cu alloy based hybrid composites reinforced with zircon sand of different particle sizes and amounts was studied. It was found that the corrosion rate of the composites decreases with an increase in amount or a decrease in size of zircon particles. The corrosion mechanism was explained with the help of the microstructure of the corroded surface. The zircon particles are found to stop pit growth and hence decrease the corrosion rate of the composites.
