Abstract
Ventilation equipment for long distance tunnelling ventilation in coal mines is selected by the maximum ventilation resistance and the maximum flowrate of the roadway. For shorter tunnelling distances, the fan capability can exceed requirements, thus resulting in wasted energy. The performance of long distance tunnel ventilation systems is analysed in this paper, and according to the law of similarity of pump and fan, the energy consumption of variable frequency fan is described in detail. Combining with an engineering site of variable frequency fan applied in such a coal mine long distance tunnelling ventilation, the energy saving benefit of the fan is analysed and compared with and without the use of a variable frequency speed control. An analysis of the results of this research indicates that there should be an obvious energy saving benefit and a wide application prospect in long distance tunnelling ventilation with variable frequency fan.
