The rate of uptake of gaseous hydrogen by a chromium-molybdenum steel has been investigated between 50° and 400°C. The rate-controlling mechanisms have been deducedfrom consideration of the activation energy of the process and the implications regarding the storage of hydrogen in steel cylinders are discussed
