Abstract
This study was aimed at determining which press forging die and process parameters are crucial for the production of a sound and cheap component. Effects of various factors on cavity press forging loads are investigated with a view to determining which of them are most important and how they influencepress forging die and process design. Within the temperature range 1150°–1250°C, the tests indicate three most important factors. These are: the ratio of the flash width to flash thickness, the temperature at which the slug isforged, and the aspect ratio of the billet. The flash width to thickness ratio was significant at the 1% level while the other factors were significant at the 10% level.
