Abstract
Rare earth solution (RES) surface modification and air oxidation methods were used to improve the interfacial adhesion of the carbon fibre reinforced polyimide (CF/PI) composite. The impact and tribological properties of the PI composites reinforced by the carbon fibres treated with different surface modification methods were comparatively investigated. Results showed that the impact strength of CF/PI composite was improved 28% after RES treatment. And PI composite filled with RES treated CF registered excellent friction and wear properties under oil lubricated condition. The improvement of impact and tribological properties of the CF/PI composite was mainly due to the improvement in interfacial adhesion after RES treatment.
