Abstract
A new cathodic protection technique has been developed for controlling atmospheric corrosion. A specially formulated coating, which contains the solid electrolyte sodium β″ (β) alumina as an ionically conducting component, not only isolates metal substrates from atmospheric environments, but also provides an electrical path for impressed protective currents. The feasibility of the technique has been verified by laboratory and field tests.
