Abstract
In Part I results of corrosion tests performed on either βl- or βl-Cu–Zn–Al alloys were presented. Since in engineering applications shape memory alloys frequently have to be used under mechanical loading or/and thermal cycling, it is important to determine the effect of a phase transformation (βl→2βl) on the stress corrosion susceptibility. In the present paper the results of slow strain rate tests performed under thermal cycling are presented. The relationship between the mechanical properties of β-Cu–Zn–Al shape memory alloys and this SCC behaviour is discussed.
