Abstract
Cu–Zn–Al metallurgical alloys showing a shape memory effect, based on a phase transformation induced either thermally or mechanically, have recently been developed. Published information on the corrosion behaviour, and more specifically on the stress corrosion behaviour, of such beta Cu–Zn–Al alloys is, however, very limited. In the present paper results of corrosion tests such as electrochemical measurements and stress corrosion tests performed on β1- and β1–Cu–Zn–Al alloys are given and compared with published data for α-Cu–Zn and α-Cu–Al alloys.
