Abstract
A crevice assembly and an electrochemical method have been developed to study the crevice corrosion resistance of an alloy as a function of metallurgical variables. The existence of a critical crevice potential (Eee) analogous to the critical pitting potential has been established. The critical crevice potential, Eee, has beenfound to be independent of the scan rate in the range 5–100 mV/min. The crevicecorrosion resistance of three different types of auste.nitic stainless steel (viz. 304, 310 and 316) was investigated in 0·5 M NaCl solution and their resistance wasfound to be in the order of 316 > 304 > 310.
