Abstract
In a test loop with natural sea water 28 valves of different design were tested. The materials in the different valve parts were copper-base alloys, stainless steel and cast iron. The water velocity was 2·5 m/sec and the temperature 50°c. The duration of the test was 10 months.
The investigation has shown which types of corrosion that, under the conditions mentioned, occur on the alloys and valve designs tested. A few of the alloys have withstood attack during the exposure without any noticeable damage.
