Abstract
Work at the former National Chemical Laboratory and the National Physical Laboratory is reviewed in the light of corrosion problems that occur in central heating systems. Important factors discussed include variation- in composition and aggressivity of the waters used; the morphology of pitting attack; and the influence of flow, temperature and heat transfer on the corrosion process.
