Abstract
The scope of the title of this paper is extremely wide, which will become evident when the implications of the terms ‘Academic Institutions’ and ‘Corrosion and Protection’ are considered.
In the United Kingdom there are 40 Universities and 30 Colleges that have been or are to be designated as ‘Polytechnics’ and well over a 1000 technical colleges (an outline of the structure of ‘higher’ and ‘further education’ in the United Kingdom is given in the Appendix), and corrosion courses may be provided at different levels in departments of science, engineering and technology in these academic institutions.
